Cheltenham football, Jenkintown football, and Upper Moreland football saw their playoff hopes come to an end over the weekend. Abington boys’ soccer lost as well but will live to fight another day on Tuesday, November 7, and Cheltenham cross country’s Will Edgar performed well at Saturday’s PIAA Boys 3A Cross Country Championships.
Cheltenham Football
16th-seeded Cheltenham High School was knocked out of the District 1 6A football playoffs on Friday, November 3, falling to top-seeded Central Bucks West 27-`12.
According to The Reporter, the game was tied at zero heading into the second half. From there, the Panthers’ running back Tre McLeod broke free for a 53-yard touchdown, immediately answered by a field goal and a touchdown for CB West.
“Cheltenham played a great first half,” CB West coach Rob Rowan said. “Their effort was incredible defensively. They were flying to the football. We knew they had a lot of speed defensively, so they gave us everything we could handle. I don’t want to take anything away from Cheltenham.”
Jenkintown Football
The Jenkintown High School football team lost 20-0 to Morrisville High in the PIAA District 1A championship game at Morrisville on Friday, November 3.
A win would have positioned the Drakes for a shot at states.
Upper Moreland Football
The Upper Moreland Bears fell to the Chester Clippers 44-0 on Saturday.
According to MaxPreps.com, “Upper Moreland’s defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 4-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team’s offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 7.0 points per game.”
Abington Boys’ Soccer
Abington boys’ soccer fell to top-seeded Conestoga 3-1 in Saturday’s District 1 4A final.
“We knew it was going to come to whoever scored the second goal was going to win thegame,” Abington senior captain Braden Delgado told SuburbanOneSports.com. “They happened to do it with 10 minutes left. It kind of broke some of our spirit, but I think we still worked hard for each other. The third goal was because we had to push up to score. This gives us some confidence, that’s for sure. We know we can play with them. We dominated them in parts of the game. It happens.”
Abington’s high placement in the district grants them a first round home game against District 3 runner-up Manheim Township on Tuesday, November 7.
Cheltenham Cross Country
Cheltenham High School sophomore Will Edgar finished 28th at Saturday’s PIAA Boys 3A Cross Country Championship.
According to Cheltenham School District, Edgar finished the 5,000-meter Parkview Course in Hershey in 16:40, which was 1:21 faster and 98 places better than his 2022 championship performance.
