The Hatboro Police Department announced that it will be conducting targeted speed and stop sign enforcement is the neighborhoods surrounding the West Moreland Avenue bridge project. The bridge passes over the Pennypack Creek and is located on West Moreland Avenue between Flamingo Road (Upper Moreland) and Broad Street (Hatboro).
“It is in your best interest to follow the PennDOT approved Detour which is attached,” police said in a notice. “Should you choose to cut thru residential neighborhoods and speed, fail to stop at a stop sign or drive in an unsafe manner… you will quickly find out a traffic citation in Pennsylvania will cost you around $170 big ones. NO WARNINGS WILL BE ISSUED.”
The notice said that the project’s contractor, H&K Group, is expected to post the PennDOT-approved detour on Monday, January 12. Demolition of the bridge is expected to begin shortly thereafter, at which point the bridge will be closed to all vehicles and pedestrians through the completion of the project in December 2027.
