Harry Gramlich, Glenside man previously charged with involuntary manslaughter and neglect of his disabled brother, is dead

Harry A. Gramlich, formerly of the 200 block of Edge Hill Road in Glenside, died on Thursday, January 22. He was 76,

In 2023, Gramlich was charged with involuntary manslaughter and neglect in connection with the 2020 death of his 52-year-old brother, Timothy, who had Down syndrome. Officials said Timothy died from an untreated illness and found his naked body wrapped in an article of clothing on a bare, soiled mattress in a second-floor bedroom.

“The examination suggested Timothy Gramlich had been neglected and had he undergone routine medical evaluations and care, his death from urosepsis could have been prevented,” detectives said.

A forensic pathologist said that examples of neglect included Timothy’s weight of 76 pounds, and “fixed, flexion contractures of hips and knees with no pathological basis for them,” pressure-induced ulcerations of his lower extremities and the “poor, soiled conditions Harry Gramlich exposed him to,” according to the arrest affidavit.

“The unsanitary conditions and neglect of Timothy Gramlich, a care-dependent person, demonstrated Harry Gramlich’s willful and wanton disregard of an ongoing, unjustified risk that contributed to and resulted in Timothy Gramlich’s death,” Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele’s office said.

Elizabeth Anne Gramlich pleaded guilty in August 2022 to felony charges that she and her brothers, Harry and Joseph, failed to properly care for their sibling.
