Diane (Lieber) Campbell, a 1996 graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote, has been named the new head field hockey coach at Germantown Academy in Fort Washington.
Campbell was named the Most Improved Player and Most Valuable Player during her field hockey days at McDevitt and went on to play for Sacred Heart University from 1996-2001. After receiving her bachelor’s degree, she served as an assistant coach at her alma mater from 2001-17 before taking over as head coach in 2018 and leading the program until the school’s closure in 2021.
She currently coaches for the Field Hockey Sports Club (FSC) Falcons, which serves young athletes in Bucks and Montgomery counties, and for the Glenside Youth Athletic League, where she has served as the director and head coach for their field hockey program since 2015.
She has also coached the St. Luke’s CYO field hockey program in Glenside since 2021.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Diane Campbell to lead the GA field hockey program,” Director of Athletics Tim Ginter said in a school announcement. “Throughout the interview process, she not only impressed the search committee with her vision for the program, but she was also able to make an immediate connection with the players. Diane’s addition to the department and school community will be a positive one and I am already looking forward to seeing her in action this fall.”
“I can’t wait to share my experiences and insights with the incredible community at GA,” Campbell said. “I’m excited to start helping student-athletes unlock their full potential and achieve their goals.”
Campbell plays recreational field hockey with the Philadelphia Field Hockey Association and graduated with a master’s degree in special education from Arcadia University in 2010.
She will inherit a team that went 8-13 overall and 3-8 in Inter-Ac League competitions in 2023.
