Greater Glenside still under Flood Warning, forecasters expect another storm this weekend

Montgomery County is under a Flood Warning until late tonight, and the National Weather Service announced today that another storm is expected to bring an additional inch of rain to greater Glenside.

Rain is expected to begin the evening of Friday, January 12 and continue through Saturday, forecasters said.

“Widespread flooding is occurring, and flooding will slow to recede through the week. New rainfall Friday night through Saturday morning will exacerbate any flooding that would be ongoing, and new flooding is possible. Strong to potentially damaging winds will develop yet again Friday night,” the Service said in a statement.

The forecast briefing can be found below:

Accuweather’s forecast for Friday: “Increasingly windy; sun and areas of high clouds in the morning followed by plenty of clouds; heavy rain at night can lead to flooding.”

The following roads were closed last night due to flooding and will be susceptible to further closures this weekend if the forecasters are right:

  • Philmont Avenue in Huntingdon Valley was shut down between Red Lion Road and Huntingdon Pike
  • Terwood Road in Huntingdon Valley was shut down between Welsh Road and Valley Road
  • Heaton Road in Huntingdon Valley was shut down between Byberry Road and County Line Road
  • Blair Mill Road at Home Road in Upper Moreland Township was closed in both directions
  • Tookany Parkway in Cheltenham Township was closed from Beryl Road to Central Avenue and Ashbourne Road to Johns Road.

Flood-prone areas in Abington, Huntingdon Valley, and Fort Washington can be found below:

The National Weather Service also noted that 3.18″ of rain has fallen so far this month in Philadelphia.

“The normal for the entire month is 3.13″, so we’re already above normal for rainfall and we still have 3 weeks left of January. The January record is 8.86″ in 1978,” they said.
