Rebecca Gratz, the great-great-great-niece of the founder of Gratz College in Melrose Park, was recently featured in an article by The Jewish Exponent for her June 13 visit to the campus.
The article dips into the history of Gratz College, including the inspiration for its founding: the late Rebecca Gratz (they share the same name), who was born in Philadelphia in 1781.
The current namesake, born in 1990, traveled all the way from her home in Louisville, Kentucky to retrace her legacy in Philadelphia’s Jewish community.
In November 2022, after receiving the results from a DNA test, Gratz reached out to the college to learn more about her family history.
“I feel much more connected to her, and I feel more connected to my roots,” she said.
