Gov. Shapiro nearly struck by ‘America250PA’ backdrop in Hershey, hints at 2028 presidential candidacy during NYC talk, will join Dutch King and Queen on April 13 in Philly

Governor Josh Shapiro was nearly struck by a large “America250PA” backdrop sign during his unveiling of the “Commonwealth Concert Series” in Hershey on Thursday, FOX News reported.

Shapiro was on stage with a Benjamin Franklin reenactor and a woman portraying Betsy Ross when the backdrop fell.

“Everyone okay?” Shapiro asked before finishing his announcement.

2028 Presidential Run

Shapiro hinted at a 2028 presidential run during a fireside chat with the Rev. Al Sharpton at the National Action Network’s (NAN) annual convention in New York City, according to The Hill.

“We have an opportunity to have a real debate within our party about what we stand for, about what our affirmative vision is,” Shapiro said. “That is a debate that our party hasn’t had for a good long while and that debate is not only going to help the Democratic Party, I think it’s going to be healthy for this country. And what I can tell you for sure is that I want to be a part of that debate.”

Dutch Royalty Visit

The governor and First Lady Lori Shapiro will join His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Mxima of the Kingdom of the Netherlands during their working visit to the United States on Monday, April 13 in Philadelphia.

The visit will “highlight economic ties between Pennsylvania and the Netherlands as well as America’s 250th anniversary of independence and the Netherlands’ role in the American Revolution”, according to the announcement.
