Got Mulch? Abington Makes It Available at Four Locations

Abington residents not making mulch with the lawnmower they already own can pick some up from the township at the following locations:

  • Baederwood Park
  • Crestmont Park
  • Alverthorpe Park at the Fox Chase Road entrance
  • Abington Township Public Works Facility (2201 Flore Lane, Abington, PA 19001)

Mulch can also be purchased by businesses such as landscapers and contractors at the Public Works Facility for $5 for 3 yards. Additionally, mulch is provided year-round at the Public Works Facility when not available at Park locations.

You can, of course, provide yourself with your own mulch simply by mowing the leaves that fall on your lawn, eliminating the middleman. This is not only more cost-effective way shred leaves, but you can feed your lawn with the best fertilizer nature can provide and no longer annoy your neighbors with your leaf blower.

This is a tip we picked up from Mike McGrath from “You Bet Your Garden”. According to Mike:

A bagging lawnmower works well to shred and collect leaves. If the lawn they’re on has not been treated with chemical herbicides, the small amount of grass clippings that also get picked up will help the leaves compost faster. But if the lawn has been treated with chemical herbicides, just mow the leaves back into the lawn—don’t make compost with those contaminated clippings.
