The Weldon Soda Fountain in Glenside will be changing hands on Thursday, June 1. Owners Rachel Tomaro and her fiancé, Benny Johnson, purchased the ice cream parlor in October 2020, and are handing the business over to a local family.
From their Facebook post:
As of June 1st The Weldon Fountain will be changing ownership. Rachel & Benny want to thank each and every one of our amazing customers for the last four years. What an amazing run it’s been, we could’ve never had such amazing success without each and everyone of you. We will miss everyone dearly.
The new owners are an amazing local family that were customers that fell in love with The Weldon and plan to keep making our ice cream recipes that you all love!
The ice cream shop first opened in 2015, and is a throwback to the classic soda fountains of the early 20th century. It was originally owned by Keswick Commons tenants John Thompson of A Taste of Philly pretzels and Jackie Ecker of the Village Diner, pictured below.
