Theodore “Ted” Silary, Jr., 72, a Glenside native and longtime sportswriter for The Philadelphia Daily News, The Philadelphia Bulletin, and Montgomery Publishing Co., died on Thursday, May 18, of sepsis.
Silary was the leading voice in high school sports in Philadelphia for decades. He later managed his own website, TedSilary.com.
RIP the great Ted Silary. If I’ve talked to 700 Philly hoops people over the years, 500 brought up Ted’s name. Ted was so generous with (post-retirement) ideas. Pre-retirement, he was fiercest of competitors for all us Inquirer folks. He could have covered anything, chose HS’s.

The Philly sports show Crossing Broad Sports paid homage to Ted in this Youtube segment:
Ted was born in a Philadelphia home for unwed mothers and was adopted by Ted and Elizabeth Silary before he was 1. For Ted’s obituary in The Philadelphia Inquirer, you can click here.
