Corey Bennett, 34, of Knoxville, Tennessee, has been charged with terroristic threats for writing a pair of letters on July 22 which threatened Governor Josh Shapiro, First Lady Lori Shapiro, and the Governor’s Residence.

According to the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office, Bennett is currently incarcerated at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) in Camp Hill. The letters—which he admitted to writing—were intended for two county clerks but were intercepted by SCI Camp Hill staff.

Bennett is registered sex offender serving prison time for rape and multiple assaults on corrections officers. According to the Daily Voice, members of the Pennsylvania State Police Political Violence Threat Unit investigated after the letters were discovered.

State Police did not disclose the nature of the threats. Glenside Local will publish updates as they become available.

Last year, Cody Balmer, the man caught on video firebombing Shapiro’s Harrisburg residence in April while he slept inside, was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in state prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder.
