Glenside Fire Company competes at TFT Firefighter Championship Series, feat. by WHYY

Members of the Glenside Fire Company took part in the three-day regional TFT Firefighter Challenge Championship Series, described on their website as “The toughest two minutes in sports.”

The Northeast Regional Classic is being held from July 25-27 in a vacant Sam’s Club parking lot in Exton and includes competitions such as slamming a nine-pound sledgehammer into an I-beam, carrying a 42-pound high-rise pack up five flights of steps, and pulling a 175-pound mannequin to the finish line, WHYY reported.

Firefighters from Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont were invited to compete, according to the website.

Bob Scholly Jr., a Glenside resident and Fire Marshal of Lower Moreland Township, was on site to cheer on his son Jimmy and colleagues Madison Sehn and Amber Glenning of the Glenside Fire Company.

“If you want to come out and represent your community and give something back, come to the local firehouse, find out what you can do to volunteer and help out,” Scholly said. “It’s very rewarding. It’s a great opportunity. I’ve enjoyed it for a long time, and I’m excited to be here. My son finished. That’s all that matters to me.”

Jimmy told WHYY that the course tested him physically and mentally.

“You’re gonna be tired by the time you get down the stairs, but you gotta find that place to dig deep and really get after it, but it was fun,” he said.

“Definitely the hardest — I won’t say two minutes because it did not take me just two minutes — but definitely the hardest competition I’ve done,” Sehn said.
