A seven-bed, six-bath estate at 8201 Fenton Road in Glenside recently listed for $1.8 million.
Also known as “The Orchard”, the 8,645 sqft home was originally built by U.S. Navy Capt. William Chattin Wetherill in 1915 and is currently owned by Sylvie and Jacques Paul Saltre, the Philadelphia Inquirer said.
The Saltres have upgraded various elements but left intact the dumbwaiter, pipe organ, and the dining room’s original wallpaper, which depicts scenes of early America and was produced in France. According to the Inquirer, the same pattern was selected by first lady Jacqueline Kennedy when she redecorated the Diplomat Reception Room in the White House.
“I can’t imagine what it was like when that instrument was played,” said Francoise Saltre, son of the current owners. “The entire house must have reverberated!”

The Saltres are looking for someone “who will fully use its cozy rooms and dens, big bedrooms, updated bathrooms, and cook’s kitchen — and appreciate its quirky arches, nooks, and history,” the Inquirer said.
