Glenside Avenue has reopened

Update: Glenside Avenue reopened around 8:00pm on Thursday.

Glenside Avenue, a segment of which has been temporarily closed since Tuesday afternoon due to a sewer main break, is expected to fully reopen sometime this evening.

According to Bo Coyle, Cheltenham Township’s Public Works Director, the pipe broke while a subcontractor was working to reconnect the storm sewer connection to the township’s storm system which runs deep under Glenside Avenue.

“During the course of the work, they hit an unmarked sewer main, which caused the initial closure,” Coyle said.

Aqua subcontractors fixed the sewer main Tuesday evening but the road segment remained closed due to instability, according to Coyle.

The subcontractor is finishing the storm sewer connection work until the trench in the road can be backfilled and restored, he said.
