Friends of Glenside Weldon provided some highlights on the status of the fundraising project:
- Confirmed $25,000 grant from Senator Art Haywood which will be used for new playground equipment
- Working to conserve “The Cheese” which was determined to have been made by a very famous sculptor (Jim Miller-Melberg) in the ’60s or ’70s. Working with the Abington School District and Abington Art Center to come up with a plan to preserve it
- Solved the illegal parking issue and have a full view of the playground again
- Working with the Abington Shade Tree Commission in partnership with GYAC submitted a greening plan for the entire space. Over the last several months some of the giant trees along Parkdale have been lost. The proposed three-year greening plan replaces those trees and strategically plants new trees in key spaces
