Richard Manfredi, Abington Township’s manager since 2017, is a few days away from being officially retired from his post.
Christopher Christman, his replacement (above right), will begin the new post on January 6. Christman served as Derry Township’s (Hershey) manager since 2018.
From Derry Township’s announcement:
Appointed Township Manager on November 13, 2018, Chris has served the community for six years. His leadership, dedication, and exceptional management have contributed significantly to the township’s success. On behalf of the personnel, department managers, and Supervisors, we extend our sincere gratitude for his hard work and commitment. While he will certainly be missed, we wish him continued success in his new role.
Manfredi submitted a letter of resignation in April. He was appointed to the role of township manager in Conshohocken in mid-June of 2014 and previously served the same position in Warminster.
When asked for comment regarding his tenure, Manfredi told Glenside Local in November: “I have always seen public management as service to others and truly do not want to make it about my career with the Township when so many people have made great things happen with me.”
“We thank him for his years of dedicated service and leadership and wish him all the best in this exciting new chapter,” the township said in their January 2025 newsletter.
The township is still looking to hire an Assistant to the Township Manager. Theresa Castorina, who previously held the position, is also stepping down.
In related news, township officials announced that holiday tree pick-up begins on Friday, January 3.
“Place your trees curbside on your normal trash day throughout the month of January. Please do not put trees in plastic bags and be sure to remove all lights and ornaments as the trees will be ground up and composted,” the township said in the newsletter.
