FoodChasers’ Kitchen of Elkins Park took second place at the first-ever cheesesteak contest at the annual South 9th Street Italian Market Festival in Philadelphia on Saturday, May 20.

Sisters Maya and Kala Johnstone, FoodChasers’ co-owners, went up against six other Philly shops, including Woodrow’s Sandwich Shop of South Street, Campo’s Deli of Old City, Korean Taqueria and Rocco’s, and Lorenzo’s, the contest winner.

Deer Park, the contest sponsor, selected the contestants from online nominations. Jeremiah Trotter, a former Eagles linebacker, served as one of the judges.
