Flaco’s Dance Factory of Jenkintown offering new classes, teachers, and a trip to Cuba

Flaco’s Dance Factory of Jenkintown has a new semester of classes starting on Tuesday, January 23.

Known for its group sessions, wedding choreography, private lessons, workshops and tutorials, the studio is offering new beginner classes this year with a new Zumba teacher, bachata teacher, and line dancing teacher.

On Wednesday, February 14, Flaco’s will be holding a Valentine’s Day class for couples.

“The lesson of the night will be bachata, a very easy-to-learn and executive style of dancing,” the dance studio’s owner, Mark “Flaco” Best, said. “It’s also very romantic. It comes from the Dominican Republic and it’s very popular down there.”

In May, Flaco will be taking 20 students to Havana, Cuba for drumming, dance and community service.

“We’ll be dancing 3.5 hours a day, five days a week,” Flaco said. “We’ll also be making donations to musicians and going down with an attitude of service and learning. Whatever the need is at the time is what we’ll be doing in terms of community service.

“It could be disaster relief, helping the farmers’ harvest, whatever it may be. It will be a fun, educational and rustic experience. Lots of walking, horseback riding, stair climbing. It’ll be an active trip,” he said.
