PennDOT recently announced that Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike), Route 463 (Horsham Road/Cowpath Road), and Business U.S. 202 (Doylestown Road) Intersection, commonly referred to as “Five-Points Intersection” in Montgomery Township, will receive a $14.2 million worth of travel and safety improvements beginning Monday, January 29.
PennDOT’s contractor will create additional through lanes at the intersection approaches in both directions on Route 463 and on southbound Route 309. Widening of the roadway will allow for 18 travel lanes to approach the intersection, compared to the existing 15 travel lanes, to improve traffic flow and reduce crashes, PennDOT said.
Other improvements include upgrading and retiming signalization; installing sidewalks, ADA curb ramps, and guiderail; upgrading stormwater drainage, signage, and pavement markings; adjusting driveway access; and reducing erosion sediment.
The improvements on Route 463 and Route 309 “will enhance traffic flow for westbound Route 463 drivers turning right onto Doylestown Road,” PennDOT said.
The following periodic lane closures will take place for tree clearing and utility work at the following locations through early March:
- Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike) between North Wales Road to McLaughlin Road
- Route 463 (Cowpath Road/Horsham Road) between Lansdale Avenue and North Wales Road
- Business U.S. 202 (Doylestown Road) between Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike) and Betty’s Avenue
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
