FBI ‘Most Wanted’ fugitive, convicted child rapist originally arrested in Abington sentenced 7-14 years

Gerard Boguslaw Zalewski, 41, a convicted child rapist who was arrested in Abington Township on August 15, 2004, pleaded guilty this week to felony charges of default in required appearance and flight to avoid apprehension or punishment, Mainline Media News reported.

Zalewski was extradited from the United Kingdom in August 2024 after serving a sentence in a British prison for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl there. According to Montgomery County’s District Attorney’s office, he skipped bail prior to his sentencing hearing on child rape charges and resided for 10 years in Lancashire, England.

He was later convicted and sentenced to prison on charges of penetrative sexual activity with a child (two counts), meeting a child following sexual grooming, making indecent photographs of a child, and false imprisonment.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office placed him on watch lists, including the FBI’s “America’s Most Wanted” list, and sent his information to Interpol prior to his arrest. He was captured after he arranged a meeting at the Abington Library parking lot with an undercover Abington detective posing as a 12-year-old girl.

Zalewski faces a possible maximum sentence of 7 to 14 years in prison, Mainline Media said. He has begun serving a 5-to-20-year state prison term he received in March 2006 for having sexual contact with a Bucks County girl he met online.
