MLK Day Actor’s Workshop: Your Voice Matters Rooted Tree Productions invites you to embrace your inner artist! Dance, sing and act to the songs and sounds of the Hairspray Jr. Musical. Engage in courageous conversations about diversity. Rooted Tree Instructors will utilize the Hairspray Jr. Musical as a vehicle to discuss the bravery it took to fight for integration. How it is relevant in our society today and to discuss what we can do to be positive change agents in our community. There is a $25 registration fee payable the day of the event for the day which will be credited to your summer camp cost if you sign up for the summer program. Cash or checks accepted, made payable to Rooted Tree Productions, Inc. Opens to all student in grades 5-12 (students will be broken down into smaller groups by age and grade). Time: 9:00 to 3:00 Location The Abington Club 300 Meetinghouse Road Jenkintown Pa, 18946 What to wear/bring Dress in comfortable clothing Bring jazz or ballet shoes if you have them Pack a water bottle Brown Bag Lunch Workshop Framework A. Welcome to Rooted Tree: Introductions, Mission Statement and Essential Questions for the day. B. Breakout Groups: Dance and Choreography Basics Instruction will include stretching and a brief warm-up, short combination sequences and a portion of the performance choreography. Students will be exposed to two of the ensemble numbers for our summer production. Singing • Introduction and exposure to a variety of musical genres from the show. Practice with solo, small group, and ensemble pieces. Improv and Acting Basics Improv Workshop: “Listen without an agenda. Follow the fun. Laugh without fear.” Script Reading with Meaning: Students will work with the script from Hairspray Jr. and will be exposed to the audition material for our summer production. Courageous Conversations C. All Cast Question and Answer session Coming Together as a Cast Closure with a time to reflect and review the day’s work.
