Elkins Park teen fatally shot following argument in Roxborough apartment

Elijah Deloach, 18, of Elkins Park, was fatally shot Tuesday night inside a 4th-floor Roxborough apartment, Philadelphia police announced today.

Officers arrived at the Henry on the Park apartments off the 7900 block of Henry Avenue around 10:00pm Tuesday, May 22, to find an armed 23-year-old outside, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said today.

The armed suspect has been identified as Kione Gary.

Small said he believes the incident began as a domestic argument between the alleged shooter and his girlfriend, who live in the apartment. During the argument, family members of the woman and some friends arrived to intervene in the fight. A single shot is believed to have been fired in the living room.

Deloach was pronounced dead at Roxborough Hospital a little after midnight, police said.

“For some reason, the 23-year-old who we believe fired the shot, jumped out of the 4th-floor,” Small said. “He was not injured, he remained on scene, did cooperate with police.”

Philadelphia police said that Gary’s girlfriend called her mother to tell her that she was being assaulted. The woman’s two sisters later arrived at the apartment with DeLoach and another man.

Gary told police that he was alone with his girlfriend when the sisters and two unfamiliar men entered the apartment and “approached him in a threatening manner.”

According to police, Gary is licensed to carry his gun and there was no indication that either Deloach or the other man were armed, and no indication that they assaulted Gary.

Police are continuing their investigation. Their press conference on the incident and another unrelated incident is below, courtesy of NBC10:
