Elkins Park native, UMBC track & field standout named Female Field Performer of the Week

Ava Roberts, an Elkins Park native, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy graduate and a junior member of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County’s track & field team, was named Female Field Performer of the Week by the America East Conference following her performance at the Weems Baskin Invitational, held March 23/24 in South Carolina.

According to the announcement, Roberts:

  • Placed 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 51′ 11.75″. Her throw puts her at 2nd in the Mid-Atlantic Region and 28th nationally.
  • Ranks 6th in the Mid-Atlantic Region with a 3rd place finish in the discus with a 151′ 10″ throw.


She previously earned this honor for the week of April 12 in 2023 after taking gold in the discus with a personal-mark distance of 46.48 meters while also earning silver for her 13.92m shot put throw at the same invitational.

During her Springside Chestnut Hill days, Roberts earned All-American status in the shot put at 2021 adidas Indoor Nationals in Virginia Beach, and was selected as Springside Chestnut Hill’s Team MVP in 2020 and 2021 and helped the Blue Devils to the school’s first-ever conference title.
