The Cheltenham School District announced that Dr. Benjamin Hammond, a 1998 graduate of Abington High School, has been named interim principal at Cheltenham High School, effective today.
Dr. Hammond was previously a vice principal at the high school and succeeds Principal D’Andrea who served in the role for two years. His appointment was approved at the June 4 legislative board meeting.
“I look forward to serving the Cheltenham community in this new role and am excited to build on the successes of our amazing school community, as well as deepen connections with students, staff, parents/guardians, and community members,” Dr. Hammond said.
Dr. Hammond has worked at Cheltenham High School for 21 years, serving as a computer technician, hall aide, math teacher, and most recently, vice principal for the past eight years.
He earned his doctorate in educational leadership from Saint Joseph’s University, his master’s degree in education from Gwynedd Mercy University and his bachelor’s degree in computer science from Albright College.
