The opening for Conklin Pool in Cheltenham Township has been delayed until further notice.
The pool was expected to open Saturday, June 17. According to Township officials, leaks and mechanical issues with the pumps and filtration systems are the cause of the delay.
The Township has responded to inquiries via Facebook:
With Conklin not opening as expected, we have seen your questions and want to provide some answers!
If you selected Conklin to pick up your membership cards on your application, they will remain at Conklin for pickup when it opens. However, Glenside pool is fully open to ALL pool members. Staff will be able to look into the system and verify your membership even without your cards. PLEASE BRING YOUR ID for verification.
Further, you have asked why we did not make this call sooner. Opening a pool for the season is a process that takes over a month, starting in April as soon as temperatures allow to de-winterize. The issues that prevented opening Conklin as scheduled cropped up in the final part of the process and dedicated staff have been working to rectify them as fast as possible to try to reach the set opening date, forced to make the call only after every avenue was exhausted.
For a more detailed explanation of the pool’s opening process, you can watch a Public Affairs meeting video featuring the Parks & Recreation Director and Property Maintenance Supervisor. The discussion begins around the 7th minute.
