CHS grad Chris Bartlett, director of William Way LGBT Community Center, named to 2024 Philadelphia Power List

Chris Bartlett, a 1984 Cheltenham High School graduate, was named to the 2024 Philadelphia Power List during a ceremony on Tuesday, March 19 at the Brooklyn Bowl in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia.

27 honorees were recognized by Schneps Media for their commitment, impact, and influence on the City of Philadelphia.

Bartlett is the Executive Director of the William Way LGBT Community Center where he builds community through arts and culture, technological innovation, and intergenerational approaches. In 2023, he and fellow CHS grad Rue Landau were named to Metro Philly’s LGBTQ+ Power Players List.

According to local historian Chuck Langerman, Bartlett sang in the choir, worked on the 1984 El Delator Centennial staff, and was a National Merit Finalist during his Cheltenham days. He is also a 1988 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Brown University, and a 1991 graduate of Oxford University in England where he studied the Classics.

Bartlett could have pursued a career in academia, but because of the AIDS epidemic, he opted to become an internationally-known activist for the LGBT community, Langerman said.
