Cheltenham’s Red Card Cancer game nets $3K in donations and a 1-0 win over Abington

Cheltenham High School’s Red Card Cancer boys’ soccer game on Monday, August 26 brought in $3,000 in donations and a 1-0 win, suburbanonesports.com reported.

The game, which was organized by Cheltenham High School Soccer Boosters, saw the Panthers oust rival Abington Senior High School for the first time in over 15 years.

“There was a great crowd,” Cheltenham coach Bill Tonkin told suburbanonesports.com. “Shout out to the Cheltenham and Abington communities for showing up tonight. There was a fantastic crowd. It was a great night, a great atmosphere. Both teams played their hearts out. It was a true rivalry game. It was sloppy at times, it was messy, it was physical – everything rolled into one that you could ever imagine in a high school soccer game was in this game tonight.”

All proceeds from the game are being donated to the American Cancer Society.
