Cheltenham wrestling wins first district titles in 25 years, swimmers set school record | CHS’ Shrek opens next week

Corey Bradley, a senior at Cheltenham High School, and A.J. Gordon, a junior, won the first district titles in 25 years for the Cheltenham boys’ wrestling team at this weekend’s District 1 AAA Section South tournament.

The team earned third place with 148 points in the 15-team field.

Bradley won at 172 lbs with a 7-3 decision, while Gordon pinned his finals opponent at 160 lbs in 4:39.

Senior Kurt Scheuerman wrestled in the 285 lbs. finals but fell 4-2. Freshman Joe Durham won his consolation final by fall in 0:25 to take third at 107 lbs, and senior Rah’Miere Sanders also took third, winning the consolation bracket at 127 lbs.

Bradley, Gordon, Durham and Sanders, in addition to senior Connor Stegeman, who finished fourth at 121 lbs, are all qualified for next week’s regionals at Oxford High School. 

Boys’ Swimming

The Panthers’ swim team competed at the district meet at the Graham Center in York over the weekend.

Highlights included a school record performance in the 50 free (21.76) and a personal best time in 100 free (48.76) for sophomore Alistair Reese, who placed 13th in the 50 free and 22nd in the 100 free.

Senior Aidan Bae swam a personal best time in the 200 free (1:47.35) which was 0.18 off the school record, placing 12th overall. Bae also swam the 100 fly and placed 22nd.

The 200 free relay of Will Matsinger, Reilly Kryzstoroski, Aidan Bae and Alistair Reese had a qualifying district cut time and ended up as an alternate for the event.

The team will compete in the PIAA state championships next week.


Shrek the Musical

Shrek the Musical will run March 7-9 at Cheltenham High School. Each showing will be at 7:00pm.
