Cheltenham Township Historical Commission shares old photos of the Wall House & spring edition of The Wall Paper

The Cheltenham Township Historical Commission shared some old photos of the Richard Wall House in their June 2023 e-newsletter.

From the e-newsletter:

While doing some research, Commission Chair Dr. Tom Wieckowski came across these photos on the Library Company of Philadelphia website. The first shows a view of the Wall House from the edge of the carriage house. You can see the kitchen porch is more enclosed then than it is today. Visible in that photo is the well pump that still stands on our porch. The second photo shows the pump and two other interesting features. The fireplace here is on the outside of the house, and there is a stonework to the right of it which is no longer present. Tom’s theory is that this is a summer kitchen, used to cook food outdoors when the weather is hot, to keep the house cool. The stonework at the right could be the demolished base to the second floor bathroom that was added onto the house when indoor plumbing became available. Only the back of the restored fireplace remains in that space today, along with the pump.

The Commission also shared the spring 2023 edition of The Wall Paper which features:

  • A Police Story: Remembering Regina Currie
  • Chairman’s Chatter
  • Historical Notes
  • Upcoming Events
  • New Member Needed
  • A Moment in History
