Cheltenham Issues Holiday Reminders

Elkins Park, PA – As the Independence Day holiday approaches the Township wants to remind residents of fireworks safety, changes in refuse collection schedule, closures to ensure residents have a safe and worry-free Fourth of July.

Township Hours and Trash Pickup

On Thursday July 4, 2019 the Township Administrative Building Public Works Facility and libraries will all be closed in observance of the holiday. There will be no refuse and recycling collection on July 4th and Route D recycling and trash will be picked up on Friday, July 5, 2019. There will be no special garden debris collection on Friday, July 5, due to the holiday schedule.

Parades!

The East Cheltenham Parade happens at 11:30 a.m. on July 4 and parade participants will be lining-up on Arbor Road at Ashmead Road.  The parade route is the same as previous years, and residents can watch the parade on Croyden Road.  The Glenside Parade starts at 4:00 p.m. followed by the fireworks at dusk, visit  http://glensideparade.com/events/ for details.

Fireworks Safety

Please keep safety in mind when using fireworks, and remember fireworks cannot be used on any property without the owner’s permission. Large display fireworks are prohibited for consumer use. Below are some other reminders regarding fireworks use:

  • Fireworks must be set-off at least 150 feet from any home, business or building with permission from the property owner
  • Fireworks should not directed at people, animals or vehicles
  • Do not use fireworks under the influence of alcohol

Residents that violate the fireworks laws are subject to a $100 fine.
