Cheltenham declares curfew starting at 8:00 p.m.

Cheltenham Township has announced that there will be a curfew in place from 8:00 p.m. this evening through 6:00 a.m. tomorrow. Below is the announcement with specific details.

The Cheltenham Township Board of Commissioners, upon the recommendations of the Township Police Department and in the interests of public safety and in exercising an abundance of caution, has established a curfew from 8 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2020 until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2020.

The curfew prohibits people from being in or on public streets and public spaces, including roads; sidewalks; public parks, trails and open spaces; and other rights-of-way.

Exceptions to curfew consist of the following: authorized law enforcement, individuals traveling directly to and from employment, medical services, commercial trucking and delivery services, attending religious services, voting for elective office, seeking medical care or fleeing dangerous circumstances; and travel for any of the above purposes.

Retail businesses which are permitted to be open under the statewide COVID-19 Emergency Orders are urged to close earlier I order to allow employees and customers to safely make their way home before implementation of the curfew at 8 p.m. this evening.

The ShopRite at Cheltenham Square announced that it closed at 3:00 p.m. today.
