Elkins Park, PA –The 24th Annual Arts at Park celebration in High School Park, in Elkins Park provided the backdrop for the annual Sustainable Cheltenham Awards, which went to the following five deserving recipients.
Sustainable Cheltenham is a campaign that unites Cheltenham Township residents, businesses, institutions and other local stakeholders behind a shared vision for a more resilient and environmentally-friendly community. The Cheltenham Township Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) established this annual awards program to recognize stakeholders who make significant contributions to the Sustainable Cheltenham mission.
The 2019 Sustainable Cheltenham Awards were presented to:
- Greta Bunin – Energy, Mobility, Healthy Living
- Cheltenham School District (CSD) – Energy, Mobility, Sustainable Development,
- Jeff Chirico – Community Engagement, Ecological Stewardship, Local Economy
- Christa Sywulak-Herr – Community Engagement, Ecological Stewardship, Water
- The Ways Brewing – Waste Reduction, Local Economy, Water
In March 2013, the Cheltenham Township Board of Commissioners adopted a Sustainability Plan designed to ensure the health and vitality of the community for generations to come. A first in Montgomery County, this ambitious, multi-year, Township-wide plan establishes ten goals and objectives that are applicable to all organizations, institutions and individuals. All efforts must occurred in Cheltenham Township and benefit the township or the region as a whole.
Residents, businesses, institutions or organizations located in Cheltenham Township are eligible to be nominated and self-nominations are permitted. This year’s nomination submissions closed on May 3, 2019. The Sustainable Cheltenham Award nominations must reflect one or more of the ten sustainability goals listed below.

Celebrating its 24th Year! Arts in the Park was created in 1995, to bring together many of our talented local artists and musicians for a fun, creative day to help raise funds for Friends of High School Park. Each year dozens juried artists and craftspeople to display and sell their work at the festival, and each festival draws about two thousand visitors from Elkins Park, Cheltenham, and the neighboring communities. The day in the park is filled with eye catching arts and crafts, children’s activities, food trucks, a beer garden, and live entertainment and the presentation of the annual Sustainable Cheltenham Awards.
