Bryn Athyn College of the New Church’s accreditation was reaffirmed on March 12 by its accreditor, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE).
According to MSCHE’s report, “The institution is now in compliance” with standards on governing, leadership and administration.
The school received a formal warning regarding its accreditation status on March 13, 2025.
“To warn the institution that its accreditation may be in jeopardy because of insufficient evidence that the institution is currently in compliance with Standard VII (Governance, Leadership, and Administration),” MSCHE wrote.
The same month, all 11 of its NCAA sports teams and its club hockey team were eliminated to address a $3.4 million “true deficit”.
“This decision is a necessary step for our survival,” President Sean Connelly said in a message to the campus at the time. “This is hard. But the deeper injustice would be to ignore reality and jeopardize the future of our beloved college.”
The school must submit another report by July 1, “demonstrating sustainability of implemented corrective measures,” the commission said. The report must show that it has “a legally constituted governing body that has sufficient diversity, independence, and expertise to ensure the integrity of the institution” and that it regularly evaluates the school’s chief executive officer.
The school’s next evaluation visit by the MSCHE is scheduled for 2029-2030.
