Bradley Cooper’s ‘Maestro’ nominated for seven Oscars

Abington / Jenkintown native Bradley Cooper’s film “Maestro”, which saw its theater debut in November 2023, has been nominated for seven Oscars: Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay, Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Actress, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Sound.

Upper Dublin grad Josh Singer has been nominated for Best Original Screenplay as well.

According to Deadline, Cooper joins a very short list of actors who have directed themselves into Best Actor nominations at least twice: Laurence Olivier, Clint Eastwood and Warren Beatty. He was previously nominated nine times for Oscars as producer, screenwriter, and five times for acting.

“I mean just first of all, it is the year itself, to be included in a year where there’s just such incredible films,” Cooper told Deadline. “And then when we were finishing the movie, there was a discussion of whether it would come out next year or this year, and I remember thinking that I knew the movies that were coming out. I thought it would just be amazing if we were ever so lucky to be in a mix with these films, and these performances so it’s a thrill. And for all the work that everybody put in, for many of us to be acknowledged, you know, Pete it’s like very surreal.”

Cooper was nominated for four Golden Globe Awards in December. The film received a nomination for Best Motion Picture – Drama.

The Oscars will air on Sunday, March 10.

In related news, The Philadelphia Film Society is hosting its 11th Annual Oscars Watch party where guests can watch the live broadcast of the awards show on the largest screen in Center City at the Philadelphia Film Center.

“You can watch at home and you can you can sit there and kind of get into it,” Andrew Greenblatt, the CEO and executive director of the Philadelphia Film Society, said. “But when everybody’s cheering and when there’s all that anticipation, you just feel it in the room. It’s kind of the coolest way to watch the Oscars.”
