Senator Art Haywood, whose office is in Abington, and Representative Napoleon Nelson, who represents Cheltenham Township, Elkins Park and Jenkintown Borough, appeared in a segment of “Good Day Philadelphia” to discuss Haywood’s recently passed anti-hazing legislation.
The new law, first announced in September as a response to the hazing and abuse of a Cheltenham High School student, makes hazing a mandated reportable offense.
“This law will require disclosure,” Haywood said in the segment. “Hopefully we’ll have quicker action to deal with the challenges that young people are facing.”
Haywood said he and Nelson became involved after Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele reached out to them to introduce legislation.
“Fortunately, we had tremendous bipartisan support,” Haywood said.
