President Joe Biden visited Philadelphia on Friday, October 13 to announce that our region will receive $750 million in federal funding to build a hydrogen energy network.
Gov. Josh Shapiro, speaking at Friday’s event, voiced his support for the decision.
“Pennsylvania is positioning itself as the leader of our country’s clean energy future and creating thousands of new, good-paying union jobs,” he said.
According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, the projects will generate hydrogen fuel, which Biden claims can power homes and charge electric vehicles and will attract private investment, create middle-class and union jobs, boost U.S. energy security, and help the nation meet its net-zero goals for greenhouse gas emissions.
The news of a Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub, made up of 17 sites in our region, was met with excitement and concern, according to The Inquirer.
