Arrested: Jason Colfer surrenders after extended grand theft auto investigation in Huntingdon Valley

After a long investigation, the Lower Moreland Police Department arrested Jason P. Colfer, 44, of Philadelphia, on Friday, June 16 for an act of grand theft auto in Huntingdon Valley in 2022.

On March 26, 2022, Lower Moreland Police responded to a stolen vehicle report on Tomlinson Road, Huntingdon Valley. The vehicle owner reported a 2021 Mazda MX5 missing from their parking lot at 8:20am.

Video surveillance revealed a white male entering the property and walking directly towards the vehicle at approximately 8:19am. The suspect peered into and entered the Mazda then drove from the lot, turning left onto eastbound Tomlinson Road towards Philadelphia.

The car was later recovered by the Philadelphia Police Department 15th District, after which it was towed to the Lower Moreland Police Department with a flat rear passenger side tire and damage to the lower rear bumper valence.

DNA samples were collected from the vehicle’s exterior and interior. On April 24, 2023, a forensic DNA report from the Pennsylvania State Police Lab positively identified Colfer, at which point the Department filed for an arrest warrant.
