Arrest made for Abington road rage incident this morning

The Abington Township Police Department has arrested Scott Thomas, 21, from the 5500 block of Ardleigh St. in Philadelphia following this morning’s shooting.

Thomas has been charged with aggravated assault and related charges. He is being held at the Abington Police Department pending his preliminary arraignment.

The Department published the following release regarding this morning’s incident:

On April 5, 2023 at 8:20 AM, Abington Police responded to a report of a road rage incident with shots fired at 1575 The Fairway, in the Jenkintown section of Abington Township. Officers responded and contacted the victim, who was a delivery driver for Pepsi. The victim told police that a white van pulled in front of him and stopped abruptly. The driver of the van approached his truck in an aggressive manner. Sometime during the incident, the driver of the van produced a handgun and a struggle ensued. During the course of the struggle, the victim was struck in the head with the gun. After having been struck with the gun, the gun went off and a round grazed the victim’s hip. The suspect fled the scene in the white van. The victim was transported to Abington Jefferson Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries. At 10:00 AM, officers observed the van, still driving in the area, and stopped it on Rodman Ave. near Old York Rd. The driver was taken into custody without incident. He was identified as Scott Thomas, 21 years of age, from the 5500 block of Ardleigh St. in Philadelphia. Thomas was charged with Aggravated Assault and related charges. He is being held at the Abington Police Department pending his preliminary arraignment.
