The Abington Township Police Department recently announced an Officer Commendation on behalf of Detectives Hill, Bullock, and Cartwright, Sergeants Fallon and Burgmann, and Officers Steck and Prior for their efforts in apprehending a serial burglar linked to 27 burglaries in the Township between November 2021 and May 2022.

The officers were part of a multi-jurisdictional task force which received a Unit Citation in 2022.

The Abington Township Police Department expects a high level of professionalism from all our officers. However, members of the department frequently perform their duties in a manner exceeding even the highest standards. In an effort to recognize these officers, the department awards commendations for acts of intelligent and valuable police service which demonstrates a special faithfulness or perseverance toward performing their job and protecting our community. We will be sharing some of these commendations with our citizens on a monthly basis to highlight some of the fine work being done by our officers and also a way to keep our citizens informed of what is happening in their community.

Today we highlight a Unit Citation from 2022 for Detectives Hill, Bullock, and Cartwright, Sgts. Fallon and Burgmann, Officers Steck and Prior!

Between December 23, 2021, and May 5, 2022, five residential burglaries occurred in Abington Township, including three in one day on May 5. Forced entry was made into the homes, and jewelry, a television, and a firearm were stolen. The five Abington burglaries were linked to twenty additional burglaries occurring throughout the region since November 2021. There were similarities in all the burglaries, indicating to investigators that they were all committed by the same suspect(s).

Investigators concluded that the tactics used by the suspect in these burglaries, was identical to the tactics used by a serial burglar who had been arrested by Abington Police in 2013. As a result of his arrest in 2013, he served time in prison, and was released in 2021. A multi-jurisdictional task force was created to capture this burglar and the above listed officers were assigned from the Abington Police Department. These officers, working cooperatively with law enforcement personnel from surrounding jurisdictions, demonstrated commitment, teamwork, and excellent surveillance and investigative skills. As a result of everyone’s hard work, a serial burglar was arrested and charged with 27 burglaries that were committed in various local communities.
