Abington School District officials shared a dozen renderings of the forthcoming middle school in the May edition of ASD Highlights & Happenings.
Initial designs for the new school were also shared during an open house in April. The new $285 million school was approved by Abington Township and Borough of Rockledge voters through a referendum in May 2025.
According to the May 2026 edition, the renderings have been presented to the Board of School Directors.
The announcement continues:
As approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education on March 26, 2026, the referendum exception to fund the Middle School Project is anticipated to equate to 1.3738 mills, which would mean an increase of approximately $14.59 per month for the average homeowner during the 2026-2027 school year. This is the first year the tax increase for the Middle School Project will go into effect, which is expected to be phased in over a period of several years. Ultimately, the total estimated tax impact on a median homestead in the District would be approximately $54 per month. As required by law, these funds can only be spent on the Middle School Project.
During the May 12 Board meeting, members of the financial team, including Raymond James, Underwriter, and Ellen Enters, Bond Counsel, reviewed the General Obligation Bond Parameters Resolution, including sharing that the total overall debt service cost is $95 million less than what was initially anticipated, as the result of a revised structure that utilizes level debt service, thus reducing the overall amount of interest that will be paid over the life of the bonds.
Additionally, on May 28, Raymond James representatives hosted an informational meeting at the Administration Building to discuss how local residents can purchase District bonds. Community members interested in the investment opportunity can contact Raymond James for further information.

In related news, Ms. Betina Roher, an Abington Senior High School social studies teacher, was named the Grand Prize Winner for Montgomery County for the Citadel Heart of Learning Awards (CHOLA).
Ms. Roher was selected out of roughly 3,200 nominations and received a $5,000 prize for herself and $5,000 for Abington Senior High School.

From the announcement:
At Abington Senior High, Ms. Roher teaches AP Government and the Holocaust, Genocide Studies, and Crimes Against Humanity course. She helps lead the service learning program, and alongside the other Holocaust, Genocide Studies, and Crimes Against Humanity teacher, Mr. Bill Penderghest, Ms. Roher has most recently been instrumental in bringing a permanent exhibit from the Holocaust Awareness Museum and Education Center to the high school to enhance student learning.
While surprising Ms. Roher with the award announcement during one of her classes last month, Citadel representatives shared that they received more than 50 nominations for Ms. Roher, with submissions highlighting how much she excels at student engagement.
