The Abington Senior High School Marching Band was honored at a Tuesday, October 10 meeting of the Board of School Directors in celebration of their 100th anniversary.
The band opened the evening with a performance based on the Edgar Allen Poe poem, The Raven, on the steps of the Administration Building, followed by the recognition of the senior leadership team during the Board honors portion of the agenda.
The Board provided a presentation (below) which included some history about the genesis of the marching band:
According to the 1923-1924 Yearbook, the first Abington Band formed as a result of a group of enthusiastic student musicians partnering with their director, Mr. Kreider.
The band initially formed to provide music for the Football games and to enhance the cheers.
At the time they formed the band, their goal was to grow to match the size and quality of the school orchestra.
