Abington School District holds moment of silence in honor of two former students who recently passed away

Abington School District superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Fecher led a moment of silence on Tuesday in honor of two former students who passed away suddenly in separate incidents over the weekend, according to an ASD Board Brief.

Makayla Ni’che Belton, 18, of Willow Grove died in a two-vehicle crash on October 6 in Seaford, Delaware.

A visitation for Belton will be held on Sunday, October 13 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm at FitzPatrick Funeral Home, 1500 Old York Road in Abington. A memorial service will take place at 3:00pm, according to her obituary.

Below are messages left on her obituary’s Tribute Wall:

Makayla was a bright, kind, and curious student at the Junior High. She checked on me constantly, and I greatly enjoyed helping her navigate her journey at AJHS.

I had the pleasure of teaching Makayla in 6th grade. She lit the room up with her beautiful smile. In fact, I gave her the nickname “SMILEY” because she was always smiling. May she rest in peace and smile down on us from above.

Makayla was a bright and happy student around Abington High School. She faced each day with a smile and did her best to make friends with her instructors. I knew her as a good friend to so many of my students as well.

Musial’s obituary was not yet published at the time of this writing.
