Abington School Board Seeks Resident Input for New Superintendent

With the recently announced retirement of Dr. Amy Sichel, Superintendent of the Abington School District recently announced her retirement on November 9, 2018 after 18 years in that position and 42 in the School District.

The Abington Board of School Directors will meet on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, 7:30 p.m.in the Board Room of the Administration Building, 970 Highland Avenue, Abington.

The purpose of the meeting is for Abington School District residents to provide public comments to the Abington Board of School Directors in order to develop a profile of the next Superintendent of Schools. The meeting is open to the public.

From an email on July 19 letter from Raymond McGarry, president, Board of School Directors:

As I explained in my letter dated July 9, 2018, the School Board is about to embark on a search for our next Superintendent.  It is, by far, the most important job we have as members of the School Board.  As we take that significant step, we want to engage with our community and seek your input on what you believe we should be looking for in our next Superintendent.  For instance, what core competencies do you believe the next Superintendent should bring to the job; what are the core values we should be looking for in such a person; and what are some key issues that you would like us to address during the interview process?  WE WANT YOUR INPUT!
There will be two ways in which you can provide input to us.  First, we are scheduling a public meeting for Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 7:30 pm. in the Board Room, 970 Highland Avenue, Abington, PA, for the sole purpose of receiving your input.  Each Abington School District resident who wishes to speak will receive up to 2 minutes to relay to the Board whatever thoughts they have on our search.  For those who cannot attend, or wish to convey their thoughts in writing, we are establishing a new email account to receive your thoughts.  You can email us at ASDNextSupt@abington.k12.pa.us anytime between now and Friday August 3, 2018.  Each Board member will receive all emails sent to this address.  Also, I want to remind everyone that emails sent to this mailbox are not confidential and may be made available to the public due to the Right-to-Know laws.
Once we receive your valuable input, we will use that information to develop the profile of our ideal candidate, and use that information for questions during the interview process.0
