Abington School Board approves 4% tax hike, Abington police swear in 6 new officers

The Abington School District Board of School Directors approved a four percent tax increase for residents during their regular meeting on June 24.

The district’s tax rate for next year will be 38.55 mills higher, which equates to $208.87 for a home valued at $141,130.

The 2025-2026 Final General Fund Budget includes $400 (40%) of tax relief for select senior citizen homeowners in Abington Township and the Borough of Rockledge. More information can be found here.

In related news, the Abington Township Police Department swore in six new officers during the July 11 Board of Commissioners’ meeting.

Among the newly minted officers is Patrick Dorsey, a Meadowbrook native an Abington Friends School graduate, and Samantha Landis, an Abington native.

From the department’s announcement:

Officer Justin Colon was born in Philadelphia and attended North Penn High School in Lansdale, PA. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Temple University. While at the police academy, he distinguished himself by graduating with the highest score and receiving the prestigious Physical Fitness Award.

Officer Michael Crescenzo was born in Bristol, PA, and attended Neshaminy High School. He is a veteran of the US Army’s Special Forces, having served with the elite 2nd Ranger Battalion.

Officer Patrick Dorsey was born in Meadowbrook, PA, and attended Abington Friends School in Jenkintown. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Drew University and a master’s degree in criminal justice from Holy Family University. Prior to joining our team, he served as a police officer with the Solebury Township Police Department, where he was a member of the Bucks County Regional SWAT Team. Additionally, he is bilingual, speaking Spanish as a second language.

Officer Samantha Landis was born and raised in Abington, PA. She attended Nazareth Academy High School in Philadelphia and earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from West Chester University. She was recognized as the valedictorian of her police academy class, graduating with the highest GPA.

Officer Ethan Medina was born in Hanford, CA. He attended Lemoore High School in Lemoore, CA, and earned his bachelor’s degree in criminology from Pennsylvania State University. Officer Medina is also bilingual, speaking Spanish as a second language.

Officer Tara Pepe was born in Bristol, Pennsylvania. She attended both Bensalem Township High School and Bucks County Technical High School. While in the police academy, she distinguished herself as an exceptional team player and excelled in control tactics and physical fitness.
