The Abington Township Police Department recently released additional details of the armed bank robbery that took place on the 1300 block of Old York Road on Tuesday, January 9.
The suspects were identified as Charles Clark and Emanuel Glass of Philadelphia. They are both being held at The Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $250,000 cash bail, police said in a statement.
Officials also learned that the handgun used in the robbery was obtained through a straw purchase operation and that the suspects were operating a stolen vehicle.
At 3:27pm on January 9, Abington police responded to a report involving two armed suspects and their vehicle. Shortly thereafter, officers located the vehicle in the area of Meetinghouse Road at Fox Chase Road.
The Department said the suspects fled when officers attempted to stop the vehicle, causing several minor accidents before colliding with an Abington police car at the intersection of Meetinghouse and Jenkintown Roads. Both suspects attempted to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended by officers.
Following the suspects’ arrests, police successfully recovered the money stolen from the bank during the robbery. A handgun was recovered close to the location where one of the suspects was captured.
Police have not specified the bank that was robbed. Stay tuned.
