Abington officials, Willow Grove NAACP issue joint statement condemning racial harassment caught on video

The Abington Township Human Relations Commission, Abington Township Board of Commissioners, Abington Police Department, and the Willow Grove NAACP released a joint statement today condemning racial harassment at a local Family Dollar.

The incident was captured in a video which was posted to Facebook on Wednesday, March 12:

So this happened to my niece today in Abington, PA at Family Dollar. She started recording after he rammed his cart into her and told her to go back to Africa!

Let’s make him famous Facebook!!

From the joint statement:

The behavior displayed in this incident is unacceptable and does not reflect the values of respect, inclusion, and dignity that define our community.

No person should ever be subjected to intimidation, or hostility because of their race. The woman targeted in this incident was treated unfairly and unjustly, and we recognize the pain and harm that such acts of racism inflict—not only on individuals but on our entire community.

Abington Township stands firmly against racism in all forms. We are committed to ensuring that every resident, worker, and visitor feels safe, valued, and respected. Hate has no place in our community, and we will continue working together to foster an environment where all people are treated with fairness and dignity.

We encourage anyone who experiences or witnesses discrimination to report it to the Abington Township Human Relations Commission so that we can take appropriate action and continue to strengthen our commitment to justice and equity.
