Abington issues update to Tyson Ave project

The Abington Township website has detailed information updating the ongoing work on Tyson Avenue between Ardsley and Roslyn.

SEPTA Track Drainage Installation 

Drilling and jacking work under the SEPTA tracks at three separate locations will begin Friday, July 12, 2019 and is expected to conclude on Sunday, July  28, 2019. The work at each of the three locations will start on a Friday night at 6:00 pm and will be completed Sunday night.

The schedule will be as follows: 

  • POSTPONED AS OF 7/13: Crossing No. 1: Friday July 12 6:00 pm to Sunday July 14 at 11:59 pm. This crossing is directly behind 624 Tyson Ave.
  • Crossing No. 2: Friday July 19 6:00 pm to Sunday July 21 at 11:59 pm. This crossing is behind 702 and 712 Tyson Ave.
  • Crossing No. 3: Friday July 26 6:00 pm to Sunday July 28 at 11:59 pm. This crossing is behind 854 and 860 Tyson Ave.  

Work Performed to Date

New concrete curb construction on the south side of Tyson Ave.
Asphalt paving on the south side of Tyson Ave. between Edge Hill Road and Ardsley Ave. and Hillside Drive in the Cemetery

As of June 28, 2019, the contractor is continuing with drainage installation on Tyson Ave. between Bruce Ave. and Custer Ave. as well as on side roads between Tyson Ave. and Edge Hill Road.  Construction of concrete curbs and sidewalks has started on the south side of Tyson Ave. between Edge Hill Road and Custer Ave. Asphalt paving of the new roadway has started on the south side of Tyson Ave. between Edge Hill Road and Custer Ave. The utility companies are continuing with relocation of water and gas mains as well as individual services to resident properties. Utility pole relocations will continue on Edge Hill Road and Tyson Ave. as well as side roads.

Upcoming Work to be Performed  

In July, the contractor will continue drainage construction on Tyson Ave. between Custer Ave. and Bradfield Road and the side roads between Tyson Ave. and Edge Hill Road. New drainage installation under the SEPTA railroad tracks will start. Water and gas main and utility pole relocations will continue. New concrete curb and sidewalk construction will continue on Tyson Ave. Placement of new asphalt roadway on the south side of Tyson Ave between Edgecomb Ave and Custer Ave. will continue. Traffic on sections of Tyson Ave. will be closed to all traffic except local traffic.
