Abington Friends’ new Head of School details goals, strategic plan, ‘Fourth Century Center’ initiatives

Nicole Hood, Abington Friends’ Head of School, was featured by the Philadelphia Business Journal in an article titled “Abington Friends’ new head of school Nicole Hood focuses on strategic planning“.

Hood, who was appointed in October 2023 and began her tenure on July 1, discussed what drew her to the Quaker school, her goals, the 2022 strategic plan, and her advice to young students.

An excerpt:

The mission here at Abington Friends School is really a compelling one for me. I grew up going to a religious school. I missed the grounding of the educational experience and a shared set of values, which is what we have happening here at Abington Friends. And being in a school like this gives you the capacity to speak to, and prioritizes speaking to, not only the intellectual development of our students but to their development as human beings. We want them to be people who value community, who are concerned with their own integrity, with peace, with the stewardship of the world’s resources and the resources that they have at their disposal.

Hood went on to detail the school’s “Fourth Century Center” as it relates to Quaker values, experiential learning, and DEI. She notes that the Center is still in its “very, very early stages” but will be “an actual place” as administrators wrap up a campus master plan project.
