The Abington Senior High School boys’ soccer team defeated Bayard Rustin High School 2-0 to advance to the championship game of the 2023 District 1 4A Boys Soccer tournament.
“This is a very tight-knit group,” Abington coach Randy Garber told The Reporter. “They like each other, and they play like they like each other. The training that the young coaches are giving them, day in and day out, the same message, is so positive, and they’ve just bought into it.”
The Ghosts (21-2, 15-1 SOL) will take on top-seeded Conestoga (19-0-1) at Spring-Ford High School on Saturday, November 4 at 5:00pm.
“We had some breaks in that we had home games throughout districts, which is huge, because this is not an easy place to come in and play,” Garber said. “We’re probably the only one left that has natural grass. It’s old-school. It’s a football field. It’s a little bit narrow. But, you know, you play all season to get home field advantage.”
The team defeated Central Bucks South 1-0 in the semifinal on Saturday, October 28, a win which ensured Abington a spot in the PIAA 4A State Tournament. The playoff bracket can be found below:
