A new soccer league is coming to Sofive, an indoor and outdoor soccer facility located at 46 Church Road in Elkins Park (Cheltenham Township).
The five vs. five league, titled “MAN v FAT Soccer”, is for men with a body mass index (BMI) of 27.5 or over. According to the league’s website, games function as a weight loss program and include weekly weigh ins with a health & wellbeing coach. Players can score before the game even starts, standing on a scale and winning goal points for chipping away at their weight problems.
The league currently operates in several states, including Florida, Texas, New York, and New Jersey. Preseason in Elkins Park begins on Wednesday, May 20 at 7:30pm.
The New York Times featured the league’s expansion in January. You can watch a clip of ABC News’ coverage from 2025 below:
From their website:
MAN v FAT started life 10 years ago as a website and digital magazine. We had grown frustrated at how local slimming clubs were aimed only at women, and wondered how many other men were struggling with weight loss.
In 2016, MAN v FAT Football was launched in the UK, for men who wanted to lose weight and play sport in a welcoming environment, with weekly weight loss results counting towards each teams’ points in the league standings. There are now more than 150 MAN v FAT clubs across the United Kingdom, with a collective loss approaching 900,000 lbs – around the weight of four space shuttles.
